  • Are you accepting volunteers?
Our organization is currently looking for people to fill the roles of Social Media Officer and Community Outreach Officer. To find out more, please see the "Get Involved" section of the website.
  • I already make donations to other large humanitarian relief agencies. Why should I donate to Friends of the Warao?

Our primary donors are individuals from communities across the US who want to support our organization.
  • How are you developing your projects?
We are working in close collaboration with the Aidamos, or leaders, of the eight Warao communities like Gardenia Cooper and Mariluz Nunez, our partner nonprofit, the International Institute of Brazilian Education (Instituto Internacional de Educação do Brasil), and other groups like Solidarity Pará (Pará Solidário) and volunteers like Thyago Almeida in Belém, Brazil. These institutions, local NGOs, and individual volunteers have years of experience working with Warao refugee families and communities in the greater metropolitan area of Belém. Through these collaborations, we can ensure that a shared decision-making process creates projects that are the most in line with our mission of supporting Warao entrepreneurship, socioeconomic success, and community self-governance.
  • What are the budget sizes and timelines of your grants?

We support Warao organizations, like the Warao cooperative of artisans called Nona Anonamo Tuma “We are all artisans”, our partner NGO, the International Institute of Brazilian Education (Instituto Internacional de Educação do Brasil) dedicated to strengthening Warao governance, and direct charity work such as the purchase of meals and basic hygiene necessities for the various Warao communities in Belém.
